INTERNSHIP: Job description

We are looking for a summer intern currently enrolled in a university majoring in microbiology, food science, or related fields of study to help support shelf-life studies of finished food and assist in researching novel microorganisms that can prevent food spoilage.

Responsibilities
This internship will involve the preparation of microbial growth media, buffers, and reagents. Proper aseptic technique for handling microorganisms. Legible and accurate recordkeeping in lab notebooks. Maintain a clean laboratory environment including but not limited to cleaning glassware, removal of trash, sweeping/washing floors, and cleaning equipment. Depending on the project, additional responsibilities may include DNA isolation, 16S PCR, antimicrobial assays, replica plating, culture collection, etc...

Qualifications
·      Must be currently enrolled in a university majoring in microbiology, food science, or related fields of study.
·      Completed a basic microbiology class with a lab.
·      Self-motivated and willing to work as part of a team.
·      Eager to learn new techniques and follow protocols as written.
·      Must live within a 30-mile radius of our facility.
